Preparing the Next Generation for Smarter, Safer Supply Chains.
With GS1 Kenya building a regional hub at Konza Technopolis, there is a growing opportunity to equip universities and supply‑chain management programs with real-world traceability training. Many Kenyan universities teach procurement and logistics, but few give students hands‑on experience with global supply‑chain standards. By integrating GS1 standards in academic programs such as using Global Trade Item Number, Global Location Number, Serial Shipping Container Code and GS1 Digital Link, universities can produce graduates who understand traceability deeply. These students could then support public‑sector traceability projects such as textbook tracking or school feeding. This would help close the gap between theory and real-world supply chain needs in Kenya, especially as the country scales its traceability infrastructure.
