Restoring Our Land, Securing Our Future.
Each year on June 5th, the world pauses to mark World Environment Day the United Nations’ flagship platform to raise awareness and inspire action for environmental protection. This year’s theme, “putting an end to plastic pollution,” calls on all of us to act decisively in healing the Earth.
Why land restoration? Because over 30% of the planet’s land is degraded, affecting food systems, biodiversity and livelihoods. When land loses its vitality, communities suffer from poor harvests to water scarcity and forced migration. But the good news? Land restoration is possible, and it is powerful.

Simple actions can have a huge impact: planting trees, adopting sustainable farming practices, reducing food waste and conserving water. Governments and businesses must also play their part by investing in green infrastructure, supporting regenerative agriculture and enforcing environmental policies.
At GS1 Kenya, we believe that sustainable practices are key to long-term progress. From traceability in supply chains to promoting eco-friendly standards, we are committed to being part of the solution.
World Environment Day is more than a date; it is a movement. Let us be the generation that restores, protects and thrives.
Together, we can reclaim our land and secure a greener, more resilient future.
