Happy Madaraka day!
Kenyans across the country come together to celebrate Madaraka Day every year on June 1st, a special day that marks the moment we took charge of governing ourselves in 1963. It is more than just a public holiday; it is a powerful reminder of how far we have come as a nation.
Madaraka, which means “self-rule” in Kiswahili, was the first big step towards full independence. It reminds us of the strength, courage and vision of the men and women who fought for our freedom. They dreamed of a Kenya where we could make our own decisions, shape our own future and build a nation we could all be proud of.

Today, we enjoy the fruits of that freedom. From the schools and hospitals in our towns to the busy markets and highways that connect us all, every part of our daily life carries the spirit of Madaraka. It is a day to be thankful for the peace we enjoy, the progress we have made and the dreams that still lie ahead of us.
Madaraka Day is also about unity. It is a time when we stand as one people across different cultures, communities and backgrounds, proud to call Kenya home. We wave our flags, sing our anthem and remember that we are strongest when we move forward together.

As the flag rises and the celebrations begin, let us wear our Kenyan colours with pride, honour those who came before us and keep working towards a brighter, fairer and more united future.
Happy Madaraka Day! Here is to freedom, progress and the spirit of Kenya.
